JembARTan – A CAUSINDY Review Initiative

28 Feb, 2020 | Alumni

Through the CAUSINDY Review, delegates work together under the mentorship of experts to explore issues in the Australia-Indonesia relationship and develop practical and creative solutions.

Across five years of CAUSINDY, there has been a plethora of highly energised delegates and equally impressive projects that positively contribute to the bilateral relationship. In this series, we look at a selection of some of the most exciting CAUSINDY Review initiatives from our delegates that have found success in recent years.

JembARTan is an initiative of CAUSINDY 2016, held in Bali, and also the recipient of a CAUSINDY Alumni Grant. JembARTan is an online portal that puts the spotlight on the hardworking and talented creative people working towards bridging cultures between Indonesia and Australia through artistic exchange.

The blog boasts an array of interviews, news items, events and explorations of culture and art in both English and Indonesian. Two key figures involved in the expansion of JembARTan were CAUSINDY 2016 delegates Jane Ahlstrand and John Cheong-Holdaway. Jane says:

“I left the workshop filled with so much hope and motivation. The input we recieved from professionals across a range of fields helped us work towards not only getting our project off the ground but also ensuring its sustainability. The JembARTan project just got very real!”

JembARTan is supported via the CAUSINDY Alumni Grant scheme. In turn, CAUSINDY is supported by the Australian Government through the Australia-Indonesia Institute of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
